Hotel & Its Classification

What is Hotel?

Hotels are seen as both the superiority of a city and the history of a country. If somebody would like to go for a holiday, work or some other kind of trip, then he or she needs a hotel to stay in. Lodges are categorized and rated based on how many stars they have. It’s also possible to choose the type of lodge and room that best fits your needs and your money.

There are four main departments in the hotel industry;

  1. Food and Beverage service department.
  2. Front Office Department.
  3. Housekeeping department.
  4. Food Production department.

 Classification on the basis of Size; 

1) Small hotels with 25-30 rooms or less are classified in the small size category, Ex- De Pavilion Hotel, New Delhi.

 2)  Medium hotels with 26-100 rooms are classified in the medium size category, Ex- Hotel Taj Agra.

 3)  Large hotels with 101-300 rooms are classified in the large size category, Ex- Pullman Hotel, New Delhi.

4) Very large hotels with more than 300 guest rooms are classified in the small size category. Ex- Taj Hotel Mumbai. 

The classification of stars is done by the Ministry of Tourism under which a committee forms known as HRACC (Hotels and Restaurants Approval & Classification committee) is headed by the Director.
